The Project List

by Colleen Morrow

Okay…  I'm back.  And I've gone through the house and made my list.  Some rooms were really easy to identify just the right number of things.  Other rooms have more than I need for my list. Most pleasingly, some rooms didn't have even three things! Note: They are small rooms.

From top to bottom, here's my project list:

Loft

  • Replace the icky plastic vents with nice new ones
  • Get rid of the little piles of stuff that have accumulated around the room
  • Deal with the giant pile of shredding that's now taller than the shredder
  • Finish ripping my DVDs to the computer
  • Get new curtains

Master Bedroom - note that this is a bit of a tricky one because we ordered new bedroom furniture in November and it's due to arrive sometime between mid January and late February.  We're expecting February but if it arrives in January, the project list may change.

  • Touch up the paint on the door jam, ceiling and baseboards
  • Get new lamps
  • Add a closet organizer to the back wall of our closet
  • Replace the icky plastic vents with nice new ones
  • Get curtains and pillows for the window seat

Master Bathroom

  • Fix the picture (in all honesty - this means dust between the glass and the frame backing but saying that makes me horrible that I still haven't done that)
  • Replace the icky plastic vent with a nice new one (are you starting to see a theme?)
  • Get a new garbage can

Guest Room

  • Replace the icky plastic vent with a nice new one
  • Get new lamps
  • Remove the stupid writing the kid who lived in the house before us put on the door

Tiffany Room - note, at some point, this will be the guest room but I don't think I have it in me to tackle this in the January Cure.  Maybe the Style Cure.

  • Get rid of the stupid sticker and the stupid writing the kid who lived in the house before us put on the door (another theme, maybe?)
  • Get rid of the giant pile of curtains in the closet
  • Declutter the shelf in the closet

Main Bathroom

  • Replace the icky plastic vent with a nice new one
  • Touch up the paint on the ceiling and the baseboards
  • Fix the towel holder
  • Get new accessories
  • Replace the faucet

Hall, Hall Closet & Stairs

  • Declutter our linens
  • Get rid of the Swiffer that's been sitting in the closet since we moved it but has yet to be used
  • Add some art
  • Touch up the pain on the window frame
  • Either add plexiglass on top of the wire shelves or get some bins so that stuff doesn't always fall over

Front Entryway - note, this is the one room in the house that already has a nice metal vent.  No icky plastic one here!

  • Get a new rug for in front of the door
  • Get a rug in front of the garage door
  • Frame the antique key & letter I have sitting in a pile in the loft
  • Tidy up the shoes
  • Fill the holes on the back of the door

Powder Room

  • Replace the icky plastic vent with a nice new one
  • Add shelves for the hand towels

Living Room

  • Replace the icky plastic vents with nice new ones
  • Get another canvas print for corner where one already resides
  • Get a new floor lamp
  • Get rid of those weird flower things that are on the window sill that I'm not sure how we acquired

Dining Room

  • Replace the icky plastic vent with a new one
  • Fix that spot on the table where the veneer has gone away
  • Declutter the cookbooks or get a new shelf for them

Kitchen

  • Get containers for the several varieties of rice we have
  • Declutter the top of the fridge

The Basement - oh, the current nightmare of my existence and the whole reason I'm going to do the January Cure… The basement has been a dumping ground for stuff since the day we moved in. A bunch of the stuff we just got for Christmas has currently also been piled in there as our pantry is full.  Time to deal with it.

  • Declutter and find an actual home for everything down there
  • Get a shelf for all the delicious food I so lovingly preserved that is now just piled in boxes everywhere
  • Organize the leftover paint
  • Organize the pantry
  • Get rid of the dryer vent that's left from the people who lived there before us

Okay, now don't judge…  But just to show you how bad the basement is, I snapped a couple of photos. I also decided to include an icky plastic vent and the stupid writing on one of the doors so that I didn't have to feel like all the problems in our house are my fault.
